Employee engagement?
What is it?
Does it concern you? Am I right?
How to engage your employee?
If you read this post, I am sure you can find the answers to all the questions.
Definition of employee engagement
Gallup defines engaged employees as those who are involved in, enthusiastic about and committed to their work and workplace. As a result, they produce more products. Moreover, they are highly motivated and satisfied too.
If it happens otherwise, it will concern you. Then how to lessen your concern? Do you know how? Please involve yourself with your employees. Now how to move forward? How will you act? By all means, understand them, grow them, inspire them, involve them and reward them. Then, only you can make them engaged, productive and satisfied.
Anne Mulcahy rightly pointed out, “Employees who believe that management is concerned about them as a whole person – not just an employee – are more productive, more satisfied, more fulfilled. Satisfied employees mean satisfied customers, which leads to profitability.”
Faults of manager
When a Manager does not know the strengths, weaknesses, interests and skills of his employees, then he fails. Neither he cares for their welfare, nor he cares for their well-being. He does not communicate properly. So he fails to develop a rapport with them. So he can’t make the work conditions more enjoyable. As a result, he can’t appreciate, inspire and involve them. If you follow the footsteps of the Manager, then you will not do so too.
How can you do so? You don’t know their strengths; you don’t see what interests them. So you can not ignite their passion. You fail to guide them. So they lose interests in their jobs. So what? Their productivity goes down, and your concern goes up. Do you know why? You focus on their weaknesses, not on their strengths. In other words, you don’t understand what the engagement of employees is. How can you inspire them? Do you want to learn more about employee engagement? Why go for employee engagement?
“Engaged employees stay for what they give (they like their work); disengaged employees stay for what they get (favourable job conditions, growth opportunities, job security).” – Blessing White’s The State of Employee Engagement 2008.
More are the Managers engaged; more are the employees involved. So engage yourself first. Then grow them, inspire them, involve them and reward them. It will make them engaged more.
You can apply it to your family also. What will it bring? It will bring trust and peace soon to you.
