Habit of observing brings you success in life

Habit of observing brings you success in life. Let me tell you why?

Most of the time, we make ourselves busy in day-to-day activities wherever we work. We are so busy with routine jobs where we use our eyes only that we forget to observe the details. Which is why the quote says;

“You see, but you do not observe.”

-Arthur Conan Doyle.

How to define “see” and “observe.”

The dictionary by Merriam-Webster gives some insight into the word “see” and “observe” here.

To see is to perceive by the eye.

To observe is to watch carefully especially with attention to details or behavior for the purpose of arriving at a judgment.

The incident showing the importance of observing

Let me tell you an incident to clarify these words in more straightforward ways.

It’s about my younger son, who was then a child. We went to Haridwar with my old mother in 2007. All of us enjoyed the sightseeing there. My younger son insisted me to purchase a binocular for him so that he could see the hills clearly from a distance. So I bought one.

Habit of observing

After we finish the tour, we returned to my place of working at Asansol, West Bengal. After that, I joined my duties on time.

On the first Sunday, after we returned, my younger son was playing with his binocular. My mother was sitting close to him. He focussed his binocular on a distant object, which I can not recollect now what the object was. Then he handed it over to his grandmother and requested her to see the object through it. But she failed to see anything with her left eye. Then he asked her to try it with her right eye. She said, “I could see now.” This episode surprised him. So he called us in a loud voice and declared her left eye was damaged. My wife and I tried it also many times. But she could not see anything with her left eye.

habit of observing

The next day, I took my mother to the eye specialist, who told us that her left eye had a cataract that needed immediate surgery. Finally, the doctor did the surgery, and she recovered fully.

Why make a habit of observing

When my mother looked through the binocular, then it was seeing on her part. When my younger son found that she could not see anything, then he used observing on his part. The most important point is his observation brought back her vision and helped her to succeed in life.

Observing is more than seeing. It analyses things.

Now I close with this beautiful quote here.

“The best observation opens the ways of success and the right decisions.”
― Ehsan Sehgal

If you want success in life, then make a habit of observing.
