Self-discipline-How to impose it in daily life?

Self-discipline. What is it? How to impose it in daily life? In the first place, when you read the post, you unquestionably come to know the answers. This link https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/self-discipline has defined self-discipline as the ability to control yourself and to make yourself work hard or behave in a particular way without needing anyone else to tell you what to do.

I start the morning walk, continue for one week or two weeks, and suddenly stop it. After one month or so, I follow the same cycle several times in a year. Does it look similar to you? Why does it happen so? For we find comfort, not in the morning walk. Most of us neither have a minimum discipline, will power nor the determination to continue morning walk. Do you agree with me?

Do you want to know how Parimal- my friend made a habit of morning walk? We have a WhatsApp group. He completes the morning walk for about an hour. Then he posts a selfie in the group.

Selfie after morning walk

Why does he do this? Regularly posting a selfie publicizes his habit of morning walk surely. This publicity certainly pressurizes him to continue morning walk. It is a unique way of imposing self- discipline. How does it work? When you publicize something, people talk more about the things you do. So they expect more from you in the coming days. To fulfill their expectations, you don’t have any option but to work hard to prove things.

Although this may be true, daily affirmations help you to make a good habit, but Imposing self-discipline helps you, as well.

Action steps

  • Decide what you should do for your good.
  • Impose self-discipline to do what you have decided.
  • Continue to do it for the next 21 days. Why? 21 days form your habit
  • Make a habit of doing it.
  • Enjoy the fruits of the habit.

I must close with this quote.

“Self-discipline is the ability to make yourself do what you should do when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not.”

– Elbert Hubbard.
