“Internal dialogue is the sum total of all mental and emotional activity directed at maintaining our view of the world.”
― Théun Mares, Cry of the Eagle: The Toltec Teachings Volume 2
Have ever observed yourself talking silently? You agree or not, you do it constantly.
There is a voice inside of you
That whispers all day long,
“I feel this is right for me,
I know that this is wrong.———”
–Shel Silverstein
Have you ever seen and heard a madman talking loud on the road? Certainly yes. The passersby look at him and can hear his voice.
The madman talks loud in the outside world and you talk silently in your inside world.
When you are walking on the road and keep on talking inside, nobody hears your internal dialogue. In fact, you take part in both sides of the dialogue and feel good or bad depending on its nature.
Why your inner voice does not stop at all? Energy builds up within you when you feel fear, nervous and hurt. As talking releases the stored energy within you, you feel safe inside. In other words, your internal dialogue makes you safe and changes your view of the outside world. If you do not stop this dialogue, you can not see your outside world in true colour.
Now how to stop this internal dialogue?
“Stopping the internal dialogue is the singularly most important act an apprentice must accomplish in order to unlock his or her full potential as a magical being.”
― Théun Mares, Cry of the Eagle: The Toltec Teachings Volume 2
First of all, you sit down in solitude, just watch what is going on inside. Do not get attached and do not make any judgement. Make a habit of practising it daily. Once you make this habit, your volume of dialogue will diminish slowly. This will make your mind quiet and change your perspective of seeing the world.
“Non-judgment quiets the internal dialogue, and this opens once again the doorway to creativity.”
― Deepak Chopra
